The fraudsters operated an online investment scheme targeting Italian victims, collecting funds through Italian accounts before transferring them through a series of international transactions to assets — including real estate and bank deposits — located in non-EU jurisdictions. The scheme was sophisticated enough to avoid immediate detection, with the fraudsters maintaining the illusion of a legitimate business for an extended period.
Working with the Italian prosecuting authority and international correspondent counsel, our team built the evidentiary case for international mutual legal assistance requests targeting the jurisdictions where the fraudsters' assets were located. The requests were granted. Assets — including offshore bank accounts and a real estate property — were subjected to confiscation orders. The confiscated assets were used to compensate the victims.
